Holmes and Watson are visited by a woman named Ann Brandon. She tells him that her brother has received a note - a drawing of a man hanging - identical to the one received by her father just before his murder ten years ago. Holmes deduces that the note is a warning and rushes to look for her brother. However he is late. Discovering her brother has been murdered by being strangled and having his skull crushed. Holmes Investigates and dresses as a music hall director at a garden party. While he is there, he guesses correctly that Moriarty is behind this crime. Moriarty had the murder of Ann's brother happen so he could attempt to steal the Jewels from the crown at the Tower of London.
