Rathbone was born on June 13, 1892.

Basil Rathbone is known as one of the best on - screen Sherlocks. He starred as Sherlock Holmes fourteen times from 1939 - 1946. His co-star, Nigel Bruce was Dr. Watson and appeared in every film with Rathbone and was his good friend in real life. Rathbone said that "Nigel Bruce was one of the most lovable on screen charactures of all time!".

They also starred in Sherlockian radio shows, and other films, Including Robin Hood.

Rathbone died on July 21, 1967

Hello,
I am looking where Basil Rathbone doing one of the Sherlock Holmes films where he says something like, "Come Watson, our usefulness here has ended" or something very similar.

This has become me new favourite Sherlock movie! It's just so funny to see so many people continually handle the match box, and have no idea what they are holding!

Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce were best friends on and off screen. The both played off each other very well and their friendship is evident on screen
